President’s Report

Thank you for attending the SYRCBA 2016 Annual General Meeting. On behalf of the Board of Directors, I welcome everyone joining us for a wonderful evening.

First of all, I would like to convey my deepest appreciation to the members and directors who had been supporting our Association in forms of attending the various events, giving your inputs and sponsoring different programs in the past years. Without your strong involvement, our Association will not be successful.

SYRCBA is proudly entering into its 34th Anniversary. We are equally recognized as the dominant Chinese Business Associations together with the other three Chinese Business Associations in GTA. In the past year, we had been invited by three levels of Governments to attend important round table discussions to express opinions on policies and strategic planning. We had co-hosted the Ontario Minister of Finance interview for our members to express their concerns and opinions on the Ontario Budget.

In public and private sectors, we had attended several discussion meetings such as “Yee Hong”, “Mong Sheung”, “GTAA”, Police, Uber, etc., to express our community concerns and opinions. Some of our Directors and myself had been interviewed by various media to give comments on public interest issues. We had organized networking dinners with alliances and business associations for our members to expand the circles of connection.

We have good relation with HKCBA, CanCham in Hong Kong, HKETO. We were invited to participate in many of their events. In the past year, many of our members and directors had joined their events in Toronto and in Hong Kong and China. It is important that we can take the opportunities to broaden the business relationship outside Canada.

In the last Report of the President, we mentioned that we would seek opportunity to provide us with Chinese connections. Together with the Confederation of Greater Toronto Chinese Business Association, we organized a China Trade Mission visited Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hong Kong. We, jointly with CIBA, had welcomed Chengsha delegation visited Toronto. We are going to join the CIBA’s Guangzhou, Donguan and Cheungsha Mission in coming October.

Looking forward, I have confidence that the new Board will continue to lead our Association based on the current success and strength to the next level. We will build up our membership base. We will maintain good and healthy relationship with Governments. We will provide business connections with overseas/China.

Thank you very much for trusting me and giving me the opportunity to serve as the President in the past years.
